Chemical Suicides / Hydrogen Sulfide Suicide
Information for the 1st Responder

by: Teresa Stevens - Fire Protection Specialist at NYS Office of Fire Prevention & Control

Chemical suicide, or detergent suicide, is becoming a large problem in the United States. High Concentrations of Hydrogen Sulfide gas can cause immediate collapse with loss of breathing and death even after inhalation of a single breath. Any emergency services personel who could arrive first on the scene should have this vital awareness training.

This course is intended to provide all levels of first responders with the basic knowledge required to recognize a potential chemical suicide. Additionally, how to safely approach and mitigate the incident while taking proper personal safety and scene management precautions. This Course is designed for all first response personnel.

Sand Lake Ambulance will be making a DVD of the presentation and copies of the DVD will be available after the presentation date to EMS, Fire & Police agencies. Please send a request to Office@SandLakeAmbulance.org for a copy of the DVD.
